DAY OF SURGERY
- Patients will be registered with our front desk staff and will sign consents. Please remember to bring your photo ID, insurance card, and anything requested by the nurse during your pre-op phone call.
- Patients will be brought back to their private room to change into a gown, have vital signs taken, confirm consents and the health history information that was provided by phone and receive an IV and any other necessary preoperative medications
- Family members can wait in the waiting room or join the patient once initial assessment is complete
- Your anesthesiologist will review your medical history and any test results, conduct a brief physical exam, and discuss your anesthetic with you. The anesthetic is determined based on the procedure, surgeon preference, and patient’s medical history.
- Patients will be taken to the Operating Room by a surgical nurse and anesthesia provider; both will be present for the surgery.
- After the procedure is complete, the patient will return to their private room. The nursing staff will monitor vital signs and patient comfort.
- Family will be brought back in with patient’s consent once the patient’s condition allows.
- Once the patient meets discharge criteria, discharge instructions will be provided to the patient and the family/caregiver. These instructions vary between the many procedures performed at Dearborn Surgery Center and the individual surgeons. The patient and family will receive education regarding medications, diet, activity including restrictions, pain control, dressings, follow up visits and showering/bathing.
- For your safety, a responsible family member or friend MUST drive you home. Some physicians require a responsible adult to be present with the patient for the next 24 hours.
